The making of the Bad Company Editions has been fueled by the lack of designs available for the west coast market. Team Bad Company’s prior boats each had over a half million dollars invested in major custom modifications. The new Viking Bad Company Editions are designed and built by the very best, specifically for the west coast, with full manufacturer warranties, and no need for further modifications.

Necessity Begets Innovation

In 2007, Team Bad Company Captain Steve Lassley, together with team owner Anthony Hsieh, decided to replace their current fleet of 3 boats, located in Kona Hawaii, California, and Cabo. Guided by 20+ years of tournament experience, they met with several manufacturers and carefully studied the market, looking for experience in hull design and construction, technology, interior accommodations, and most importantly, the perfect west coast setup.

Excitement was soon tempered when it became clear that, with the prevalence of boats from east coast builders, the total package did not yet exist for the west. They needed the perfect model for Pacific Ocean big game fishing, with the right bait tanks, tuna tubes, electronics, towers, pump system, ladders, bow rails, etc. The list goes on.

Necessity inspired innovation, however, and Viking Yachts proved to be the best platform for the genesis of west coast sportfishers. After several months of negotiations, Hsieh and Viking Yachts announced that they would build custom turn-key yachts specifically designed for the Pacific Ocean big game fishing.

Dubbed the “Bad Company Editions”, these boats incorporate the 20+ years of experience from Lassley and the team, Viking’s unparalleled design and craftsmanship, and over 8 months in additional research and development.
