Fished with Doug Kern Tuesday 6/3 on his Parker 23 center console. Reports from Monday were very encouraging, so we headed for what we hoped were 30 pound yellowtail. Point Loma was cold and green- 62 degrees. As we approached northwest La Jolla, we saw the current was down and out- not the best conditions, but the water was descent color and 66 degrees with tons of life. We only caught two bonito and had lots of barracuda bites. Slow trolled mackerel and sardines. Mackerel was easy to make right at the fishing grounds, and apparently was the hot ticket for the yellowtail the day before.
We caught a few bass in the kelp and tried for halibut, and Doug and I decided that it was just " one of those days" that the fish had lock jaw- south wind and cold. I'm ready for summer! It is coming next week!!!
See you at the seminar Thursday night.....
