Hi Gang,

It looks like the yellowtail are starting to go off. My buddy Grant and I decided to hit the Coronado Islands even though the weather report was marginal. If the weather proved to be too bad we would scrap the mission. We left the Fisherman’s Landing dock at 6:00 am in the Parker and baited up with sardines and anchovies. The information from the previous day was that the ribbon kelp area was holding good numbers of yellowtail. We could not have been more excited. We arrived at the ribbon at 7:30 and began to look around. We were the only boat on the spot. There was not much current and it felt a bit lifeless, but we had good information so we found a nice high spot with marks on it and anchored up. Water was 64 degrees and very clean. Within about 30 minutes we had yellowtail marks showing under the boat and Grant was on. It was definitely the right kind. I put on a fresh sardine and made my cast. Instantly I was bit too and we had a nice double going. Several other boats were now coming into the area. We noticed a few fish being hooked on the ¾ day boats but it did not seem to be as active as the previous day. Grant hooked another fish at about 9:00. There was not much current and the birds were flying high. The little bite there was seemed to be over. At 10:30 the ¾ day boats pulled anchor and all headed in different directions. Most of the private boats followed them and once again we were the only boat on the spot. We stuck it out until 11:00 hoping for the current to pick up. It never did. We hit one more rock for a few bonito and bass and decided to call it a day and beat the increasing weather conditions. We had a fantastic day on the water and caught the targeted species. The large fish went 24 lbs. We bled the fish and kept them on ice and ended up with some fantastic fillets.  I am constantly impressed with the performance of the Parker and I am so glad that I chose this boat. I will have more updates soon. Until then I hope you can get out on the water and enjoy our great fishery.
