Finally got out there
5-19-08
Hi Gang,
It’s been a fun few days fishing inshore on the Parker. The weather has finally become awesome and fishing is starting to turn around. Rick Maxa and I fished after work on Tuesday, May 13th. We hit our “secret” halibut spot with 6 other boats. The weather was epic and the butts were on the chew. We landed 10 flatties with 4 being over legal size. No toads but a great way to wind down after work. As an added bonus we caught a dozen bass, mostly calicos.
Thursday, May 18th my buddy Dave and I headed to the Coronado Islands. Baited up at 6:00 am with dines and choves. Started inside North Island and yo yo’d some meter marks for nothing. The bonito bite has been game on so we spent an hour educating some 3 to 6 lb. bonies on the weather side of North. It was fun to break out the old candy bar 150 single hook jigs. I am still amazed at how well those old jigs swim. After some bonito madness we decided to see what was offshore. We hit 20 paddies for only a bonito. No yellows today but soon I am sure.
Today Ryan Christianson, who works for me at the shop and I headed out after work to the “secret” halibut hole. The weather was epic! We picked up a good mix of sardines and anchovies. Within a few minutes we were bit and the action continued for a couple of hours. When it was all said and done we had caught 7 legal halibut and 7 shorts. The large fish weighed in at 14 lbs. We also caught sand, calico, and spotted bay bass. It is nice to be reminded often that I am truly living in paradise. I will keep you all posted of my parker adventures.
