Pre Fishing with Team Bad Company
Pete Groesbeck leaders a striped marlin off Cabo Timing is everything, and mine was pretty good as my honeymoon trip to Cabo San Lucas happened to fall just a couple of days after Team Bad Company arrived in Cabo ready to get tuned up for the tournament season. When asked if we would like to pre-fish with the team for a day, Laurie (my new wife) and I leaped at the chance.
So here we were, married less than 36 hours, charging out of Puerto Los Cabos at 32 knots going over the game plan with Steve Lassley.
After a short run, Steve pulled back on the throttles and we had lines in, working our way up the line from Punta Gorda to Vinarama. The good news was that there were plenty of fish in the area. The bad news was that they weren't real hungry, so getting a bite would not be easy.

We worked our way from area to area, finding fish here and there. At first we saw a few jumpers and feeders, and then there were tailers everywhere. True to form, we had to bait several fish before getting a bite, but throughout the day we found some takers and wound up going 4 for 6.

I would say we easily saw over 100 fish. Most were spotted by Steve or Pete in the gyro's, then we would work to them and finally Laurie and I would pick them up with our eyes. Since these guys were getting tuned up, we pretty much let them do the deal, handle the gyro's and the casting duties while we watched how easy they made it look.
I did get to set the hook on one that ate a ballyhoo behind the boat as we were casting to tailers off the bow.
As well as that boat handles at 30+ knots, it does even better backing down and spinning like a top, especially with Steve at the helm. Somehow Laurie managed to stay dry while landing her two fish, but I got the submarine treatment on my afternoon fish.

What a way to break in the Badger and our marriage!
