Viking is busy developing a pair of new 42-footers, the first of which will be launched in time for the upcoming fall boat show season. A vertically integrated company, Viking designs and produces in-house virtually every part used in the manufacture of each model, save for hardware items like engine, generators, running gear, etc.

Viking even manufactures the molds used in the production of each yacht right down to the fuel, water and waste tanks. Shown here, are fore and aft views of the hull mold under construction, which will be used for both the 42 Convertible and the 42 Open.

The deckhouse assembly is molded as one piece using the company's pair of $1 million five-axis profiling milling machines, which allow us to produce a part that extends from the bow pulpit to the transom, down to the precisely tooled minute intricacies of the deck hatches.

Here, the five-axis machine is milling the epoxy-coated plug of the 42 Open, which will be completed in mid-May. This boat will premiere at the 2011 winter boat shows.

The Viking 42 Convertible and 42 Open will be powered with a Cummins Zeus pod drive propulsion system.
