PACIFIC PROVIDER ROCKS!

We recently had the privilege to be a part of something pretty special.
When Corey told me we were going to Mag to join the E.P.Y.C. for a fishing trip, I was fired up.
It seemed like the timing was right, the big tuna were due to show anytime, there had been some blues around,
but the stripers were overdue. If the stars lined up, it could be epic Mag bay fishing.
I didn't have to do much arm twisting to round up crew. Pat and Bret flew in on Sunday, and by Monday we were on our way, looking for bait and what ever else we could find. The bait was scarce on the finger, so we decided
to 8 kt. it all night and look around for tuna on the banks below and outside Tosca. The weather was good and we managed to locate a few schools of 80-120 lb. fish with the sonar, unfortunately we didn't have the bait we needed to make it happen. We made it to the anchorage in time to raft up before dark.
The Pacific Provider is an awesome boat, Rich Austin runs a superb operation, and has an impressive crew all the way around. What a concept, to take this massive boat with every thing needed be self sufficient for months, put it in the best fishing grounds in the Eastern Pacific during the peak seasons, and offer
the highest level of service possible. This sort of undertaking not only requires an immense amount of work, but also a grand vision,
kudos to Tom, Rich, and the entire crew.
The Provider was a sight for sore eyes, to come in from a long day on the ocean and know there is a hot meal
waiting is a great feeling, it really takes the pressure off. After dinner we took off to join Steve catching bait, he found a big school of mackerel, and was nice enough to call us and hold them till we got there, that's a friend.
The coolness factor redlined the next morning when everyone rafted up, getting ready for the arrival of all the owners and guests.
Three Vikings; Bad Company, Bandit, and Game on on one side, Bad Company 55, and Herecules on the other, everyone cleaning, rigging,
and getting ready to fish, the atmosphere was electric. Corey, Anthony, Ron, Eric, Jim, and Jimmy Kingsmill arrived in the afternoon on Coreys plane. Everyone settled in,
shared a great meal, and turned in early.
Dawn broke to a red sky and clouds, good for picture taking, not so great for fishing. We opted for the 55 mile run to the tuna grounds
where we found different conditions from 2 days prior, the weather was up, making tuna finding difficult, but we managed to squeak out a few.
Steve fished the inside and found some blue marlin right out front, catching a beautiful fish in the high fours. Fishing was scratchy, but the
possibility of a big marlin was enough to keep us going.
All in all, the fishing could have been better, the weather could have been better, but the camaraderie, the experience, the food, and the Provider
crew was completely over the top. Bad Company caught 2 big ones, we caught a small one, everyone caught their share of dorado, some tuna, including Robert Ross'
300 #, a few wahoo, and we managed to catch a nice 450-500 # blue marlin on our way back to the Cape.
On Thanksgiving eve, I know I have a lot to be thankful for. Family, friends, and the chance to do so many cool things.
To Corey, Gayle, and the Myer family, thank you for such a tremendous opportunity, thanks for treating me so well, and thanks for always
considering my family. Anthony, thanks for the trip, and all you do. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
Oh by the way, Tiger Spirit caught one at the Cape that taped 760 # a couple of days ago, saw it with my own two eyes, beautiful fish.....
