It was nervous time in Cabo as Rick was given the title of a Cat 5 with up to 160mph winds, plus the title of one of the most dangerous storms in 50 years has all of us planning to get out of dodge. Sunday night, a group of boats fueled up and got ready to head up north. PacPro left at 6pm and is now in Mag Bay waiting it out. At 2am Monday morning, the NOAA report shows Rick weakening, that turned our plans around and Bad Co, Bandit, and other boats decided to stick it out. As of Monday morning, Rick continues to weaken with most of the circular motion falling apart and expect to hit Cabo tonight with only tropical storm winds. This is a huge blessing for Cabo as this town did not need another major hit during an already challenging time.
I decided to fly back Sunday night to see family and to catch up at the office, will fly down on Wed weather permitting. It now looks like the Black and Blue will miss Wed, with fishing 2 days on Thursday and Friday. Last time a tournament was pushed to 2 days, Bandit won it, prior to that it was 2006, that's when the 3.9mm happened. So it seems the 2 day shortened touranments maybe our number. Well see...
Good luck to all, let's hope we get to fish on Thursday. The waiting continues...

Wayne Bisbee announced Tuesday afternoon at the Captains meeting, that fishing will start on Thursday and extended to Saturday. So there will be a full 3 day tournament. There are about 90 boats signed up thus far, we are hoping to get to 100 with sign ups continuing into tomorrow. 14 boats so far in the big boy 10k daily. Considering the threat of Rick earlier a few days ago, this is a great rebound. Purse is 2mm, not bad for a tournament that was at danger of being cancelled.

Dear Anthony,
Unfortunately, this year we were not able to join to participate in cabo's local fishing tournament. I followed the results over the internet, but it has nothing to compare with the actual ambiance... We did not get the chance of meeting you and your team, but you must know that you are appreaciated by our european/african fishing team. I think that you one day, you should come over with your team to fish some blue marlin in our area... the score can be amazing. We fish a lot in mediterranean for bluefin and out of Ivory Coast. Daniel Fisher, from Fisherman and Oscar Daccarett joined us earlier this year and won the local tournament with us and a 836 lbs blue. Anyways, congratulations for Badger and keep us dreaming!!! |

Thank you Stephane, for the invitation. I was not aware that Daniel caught such a fine fish, that is a lifetime catch. I don't know much about your local fishing there, so any information would be great. Thanks for the kind words, I hope to meet you sometime soon.

Dear Anthony,
thank you for your response. if you get a chance, ask Daniel or Oscar what they think about fishing in Abidjan, Ivory Coast... for the local tournament (once a year, unfortunately no money...) last May, we fished 3 days, we caught on day 1 a 431 lbs and lost a huge fish, easily above Daniel's 830 pounder... and Daniel was fighting it for 2 hours before the line broke... really close to the boat. Day 2 we released 1 small blue below the 300 lbs mark and on Day 3, we released a small blue, caught the 830 pounder and pulled the hooks on a faire size blue marlin about 400-500 lbs. Please ask Daniel or Oscar if you are still in the Cabo area their thoughts about their trip... We invited Wayne as well, but unfortunately he could not make neither could Drew (Get Over It)... Send me an email to the address i listed and i will send you some pictures if you want. About us, i am Stephan from France/Switzerland and i fish a lot as i mentioned in the Med Sea for Bluefin and out of Abidjan for the blue marlin. My team mates are Antoine from France he is a fishing guide for Popper & Jigging and then Alex Lebanese who lives in Abidjan and is a professional fisherman on a pirogue (local wooden boat). Last year, we came and fished for Oscar. We were lucky at the Buena Vista Bisbee's were we finished 3rd. Then in the Los Cabos billfish we caught a yellowfin of 180 lbs with a casting rod... This year unfortunately we could not join neither Oscar or Daniel, but hopefully in 2010... best Regards, |
