Decided to  go up west to see if the SCI fish moved up there. Started at grey light on the  499. I am in the gyros, dad comes up into the tower and says whats that? Pull  the throttles back and we are about to t-bone a flagging sleeper.  I jump  down, pin on a bait and we are already at casting distance. Pitch a bait and he  explodes on it. It is pretty much still dark, but I see the fish eat right under  my feet. He feels the boat and screams away. Flip it in gear and fish hooks  itself. Love those circles! Got a good release on the the fish and then worked  the highspot for several hours. Did not find anymore sleepers, only 2 jumpers,  however, the bank was corroded with tuna, miles of it! All directions bird  school with breaking tuna. We throw chrome into the foamers. We hung 2 and got  one (20 lb. bluefin) Slipped out a cedar plug on the stinger and hung another  (20 lb. bluefin).
Didn't see anymore marlin activity  through the tide so we started wandering down the break to the south east. Miles  and miles of tuna (yellowfin and bluefin 15-30 lbs.) About 6 miles south west of  the bank we pop the rubberband on the stinger. There is a follow. My uncle Brian  puts the drop back in. I have control of the stinger in the tower and am able to  out swim the jig in front of the marlin. The drop back gets to the jig position.  I remove the jig and then the marlin quickly switches, got'm on! This is quite a  large fish, and puts up a very nice fight. We release her and then put the jigs  back in. I circle back up to the jig bite number, but get another bite before we  get to there. This time it is the left rigger and screaming. The fish jumps  several times and falls off. During the activity in the pit one of my crew threw  a lose mackerel overboard. A fish comes up and eats something behind the boat,  but beyond any baits that are out. What was that? One of my crew confesses. Oh  well. We put two baits out and slow troll back around. A fish picks up Brian's  bait but spits it before coming tight. He free spools, but the hook is now  fouled. The fish dorsals up on the bait but won't eat it and then sinks out.  Bummer! We work this area throught the next tide for only 2 jumpers and no  tailers. We did catch a 22 lb. yellowfin on the short corner marlin bait, and we  lost another nice bluefin on the chrome iron, but that was it. Slide back down  toward SCI. The weather is geting with it now. I see a tailer in the glasses  about 4 miles out of Northwest Harbor, but never see it naked eye, to rough to  even turn around. We slide down the front west end of the island for no tailers  in perfect tailer conditions. It is getting late so we turn around to go back to  the anchorage. We are about 3 miles in front of Wilson's and get a jig bite.  Left rigger again and screaming. She jumps ten times and falls off. Great day on  the water, hoping to repeat, but its looking pretty angry out here.

Saturday we get up and see that it is  too rough to get back up the line. We fish down the front of the island and back  up for nothing. No idea why they are not sticking them up, it is perfect  condition for them to move. We trolled our way over to Silver Canyon and run the  drop off all the way down to the 277. We had a knock down in front of Church but  see nothing. Got to the 277 and saw one jumper. It is too rough to work the area  much, so we call it a day. What a difference a day makes! Brutal tough day.  Gives marlin fishing a bad name!
