Heading to Kona in just a few hours. I'm excited, sad and confused. In other words, pretty much normal. It's been about 20 years since I had this many sleepless nights ;). First it was the Whale collision couldn't sleep right for about 3 weeks. Kept waking up replaying the incident in my mind over and over. Now it's the excitement of getting to fish Kona for a season. The confusion about what is going on with the boat. As Anthony said, not being able to have a plan. Totally tortured mind. Can't shut it off. You know how when you get a song stuck in your head, thats what I'm doing with several different issues right now. Need a switch.
So much has to go into the prep for the Season. Much of which most folks don't understand. Not only do we have to prepare the boats for a long season, we put 1400 hours on Badger in 6 months, we have to prepare ourselves. What I mean is this, all Family stuff, vacations, Sports, Doctors, Dentists, house work, investment strategies, taxes, license renewel, calendars for upcoming year, travel plans, everything. Everything that most people do over the course of a year we have to cram into 6 months or less. We don't have nights after we come home from work. All of it now or it doesn't get done. Last year I didn't have time to do anything so I was playing catch up this year. Feel good about it now.
BALANCE. That is the hard part. Balance. You were right Brian.
Having a good year so far (Except for Shamu) kids are all getting great grades. Sports are going well, David is 5 and 0, Stevi is 4 and 1. They both pitch and catch. Paige just got back from a Haiti medical mission trip where they were doing medical, dental and surgical work. She is 17 and was actually giving injections, pulled some teeth and sutured someone up(All under Dr.s supervision). When you see those pictures she brought home it helps ground me, realize how lucky were are as Americans. Can't complain because something isn't just the way we want it.....real stuff. Wow.
My passion has always been big fish. I am pretty excited to see what we can do in Kona. It is amazing the turn of events and the way things come together. Bad economy and having to downsize the team, Whale deal........We never planned or ever even thought for 1 minute that I would be spending a season in Kona. Life.........
Well , wish us luck. We are just checking out the machinary, electronics and all that. Getting ready for the year.
Sure hope all goes well for Badger. I love that boat
