Hows that song go? 1000 miles seems pretty far..........well not quite that far, especially when your catching fish.
Finally got out of town on Friday night. Steady Yellowfin, Yellowtail and Dorado all day Sat. The bulk of the fish were from Colnett down to Geronimo. No tunas over 25#'s or so and most of the Yellows and Dorados were much smaller.
Started catching Wahoo just 3 miles _ _ st of Turtle Bay. Went 4 for 12 on Wahoo and could barely troll, the Dorado and small Yellowfin Tuna were so thick.
I did see something I have never seen before. We had a Wahoo hooked on a Marauder, almost got it to the boat and it raced off. When it got back to the boat all I could see was yellow and blue. Dorado? what the....? Well the ultra smart Dorado figured he was gonna go grab a piece of what the Wahoo had scored and got pronged on the other hook. Brilliant, must have seemed like a good idea. 20 or 25# Dorado on the lead hook 30# Wahoo on the trap. Got em both.
Today we started on the top of the ridge we got to the __ __ and started catching Wahoo pretty steady. Not sick by any means, but pretty good. I only threw the bomb 4 times and got 3. Mostly a smaller grade but we did get one around 60#.
Then we saw something else pretty cool. We are winding in this Wahoo and had just gaffed it and Chris starts yelling about a Marlin. I am thinking "ya, Striper OK" I look down not 6' behind the boat and this thoroughly frustrated Blue Marlin is swimming around wondering where the heck his Wahoo got off to. It was trying to eat it. It wasn't a monster but over 400#. Swam around the boat for a little while and finally sank out. Wouldn't eat a Greenie.
Decent weather. Still traveling. Off Mag right now. Finger in the morning, Cabo by noon.
If you like fishing, pretty good right now. Wish you were here.
