Busy week in Kona
It's been a busy week in Kona, hard to believe that after one year of crazy boat buying, boat building, boat re-fitting and boat shipping. The Rybo is finally done and at it's home now ready for the season. I like to thank Randy and OB for going above and beyond to get this boat ready for the season, I also like to recognize Steve Lassely for his support and management of the rebuild process. What we pulled off in one year was just amazing, even with this team. Thank you guys, you all are unbelievable professionals.
Ron Ashimine fished for a few days prior to my arrival on July 4th, Ron caught the first blue on the Rybo at 450 lbs. He followed up with two more blues and a 200 lb class Ahi. We fished the World Cup on July 4th, had a smaller Blue Marlin for our day. Our good friend Mcgrew on the Ihu Nui catches a 732 lb blue and takes the World Cup win and about 500k in cash. It's been a few years since Kona has won, so it's nice to over take spots such as Madeira, Bermuda, etc.
The Rybo has turned out nice, and so far she has raised a good number of fish. Although the fishing has been a bit on the slow side, we've raised 7 blues in 5 days. The boat is incredibly quiet and smooth, the new rigger cam system is awesome--we expect to have great video footage from 3 cameras for this season. I got my first blue marlin on the Rybo on July 7th, sure feels good to be back for July.
I'll try to update the fish report every 2 to 3 days, Bill Depriest (PCS Editor) is coming in tomorrow to fish with us for 4 days and Lassley comes in Friday to fish the week before full moon. Should be fun.

Great report and photos Anthony. Wish I was there with you guys. Congrat's on getting your first fish on the new boat. Sounds like Ron did a great job getting her warmed up for you. Wow, that Ahi was huge. Nice going Ron.
See both of you guys back home! Jim |
